My Life As A Digital Learner

LEAP #1:

The most vivid memory I have of an urge to use technology was in 7th grade. I was waiting after school for my mom to come pick me up from soccer practice when my friend pulled out a Razor hot pink flip phone that her mom had recently bought her. Not only was the device sleek and shiny, it also had the capability to call, text and play insanely fun games. As soon as I hopped in the car with my mom I proceeded to plead my case as to why I needed a cell phone. Eventually, she gave in and within the next week I had my first technological device.

From then on, I needed the new trendy device that was on the market. From sidekicks to slidephones to iPods to MacBooks to iPads, I had to have it. Being apart of the "in" crowd with everyone else gave me meaning at such a counfusing time in my life. Your teenage years are such a crucial time of development and ir was important to me to have something that would make me fit in with everyone else and help me contribute to conversation and do other things that seem to hold high on the agenda at the ages of 14-18.

Luckily, When I entered my freshmen year of college I discovered how amazing these devices truly can be. They were not just for gossiping and liking pictures on facebook. Tecnology helps connect people if it is used properly. It has helped me study, create a resume, find restaurants, get a job, keep in contact with family etc. The world wide web provides us with instant gratification which is something you need to stay up to date in this world. For example, before I began my journey with this COM 410 course I had not the slightest clue what a "Google Hangout" was. Now, every Wednesday evening at 7pm, I am in front of my laptop screen connecting with others eager to know more about the wide world of oline learning.
